The Nevada Kali Group is a collection of the most combative martial arts found around the world. We are dedicated to the education and exploration of reliable and effective martial arts. Its our belief that the study of many different arts can create the best environment for self-discovery and self-improvement.

Head Instructor Dave Mancini has over 40 years of extensive training and experience in the martial arts. He has executive protection credentials and is a former Junior Golden Gloves champion.

His major influences in the arts are Grand Master Ark Y Wong (Tai Chi & Shaolin Gung Fu), Art Rose (Wing Chun), Kenny Chung (Wing Chun), Rick Faye (16 years JKD), Larry Hartsell (14 years JKD/Grappling).

The Nevada Kali Group represents Rick Faye's Minnesota Kali Group as well as Larry Hartsell's Jeet Kune Do Grappling Association.

Students are exposed to many different martial arts experiences as they progress through our Phase Classes. Much like a mosaic: you must first begin to assemble the tiles before you can get a solid picture of what you are developing. We have found that studying many arts at once is an effective way to develop. Studying arts simultaneously does not distract you from your effectiveness - it enhances it!

Students need to keep a notebook! Your personal observations and insights are essential in learning this art that is constantly evolving. We hope to act as guides and coaches not as the holders of some ancient secret.

Wing Chun Kung Fu

Wing Chun is one of many Chinese Martial Arts commonly called "kung fu" or "gung fu." This system is generally known for its emphasis on simplicity and directness, close range fighting, simultaneous attacking and defending, centerline theory of facing, and continuous forward going force.

When the hand comes detain it, when it retreats follow it, when the hands are free attack!

JKD Concepts & Jun Fan Gung Fu

During the life of the late Bruce Lee he and Dan Inosanto researched every martial art contact they could. With Bruce Lee as a model they refined their concepts based on research. The outcome of this process was what we now call the "Jun Fan Martial Arts." The elements that are still practiced from this art include trapping skills, kickboxing, and grappling. Bruce Lee's system is known for its economy of motion and integration of arts.

KALI - Filipino Martial Arts

Kali is a weapon based Filipino Martial Art. It is perhaps the most complete martial art training currently available.
For many centuries the Filipino Martial Arts have had a fearsome fighting reputation. In the training of these arts they have used what we now call the Laboratory Method. This method of teaching and training encourages the student to continually change and refine his or her personal version of the art. Training will include many categories of weapons and employ complete hand training.

Silat - South East Asian Martial Systems

Through Dan Inosanto there has been an array of Silat systems introduced into our blend of martial arts. Silat is a word that is used by many different martial systems throughout the southern Philippines, Indonesia, Java, Sumatra, and all the way up through the Thailand and Burma to describe a unique host of martial concepts, principles and training methods. Our training in Silat will concentrate on and exact understanding of leverage and body positions. These Silat concepts will help you to scientifically analyze and understand your martial art.

Thai Boxing

For those who are unfamiliar with the national sport of Thailand a few facts will help you to understand our attraction to this art.
Muay Thai fighters have been called the "Kings of the Ring." During matches they may strike any part of the body with kicks, knees, punches, and elbows. Kicks are generally delivered with the shin and fractures of the femur (thigh bone) are common. The combination of these kicks and the other blows make an awesome delivery of offense and has forced a constant concentration on defensive structure.

Boxing

The sport of Boxing incorporates a complex array of skills that develop through training and repeated effort. This workout improves everything: strength, endurance, coordination, you name it. Boxing is at the heart of physical toughness and self-assurance. It is the great and grand art of defending yourself with your hands; it's the barest art of self-defense.

Grappling

The grappling range is a very important part of our training. Elements that will be taught at this range will include hitting and trapping on the ground, choking, arm and leg locks, and takedowns from a ground position. We believe knowledge of ground tactics and options is a necessary element for martial art training.
